Bespoke Kitchens in Stratford-upon-Avon

Stratford-upon-Avon

We have been offering handmade furniture and bespoke kitchens to Stratford-Upon-Avon for many years.

Stratford-upon-Avon is a popular town located within the county of Warwickshire. Receiving approximately 2.7 million visitors a year, it is famous for being the birthplace, and burial place, of William Shakespeare.

Tudor Architecture

This town holds much of Tudor architecture and many of these buildings have been kept in their original state since the 16th century.

The most notable feature of Tudor houses is the half-timber work – exposed wooden framework with the rest filled in with plaster, brick, or wattle and daub. They also often have an overhanging upper story.

A typical house of this kind is, in fact, Shakespeare’s birthplace, a major stopping point for many of those that visit. This house showcases local oak from the forest of Arden and a façade made of a blue grey stone.

The large fireplaces within Shakespeare’s home were made from an unusual combination of brick and stone. It is now a museum you can visit holding much of the rich Shakespearean history.

Halls Croft – Furniture

Another popular place to visit is Halls Croft. This is the once home of Shakespeare’s daughter, Susanna Hall and her husband Dr John Hall. Presenting a sign of status and wealth are the flagstone floors and fine furniture that run throughout the house.

Having stone floors during this period showed that you were a family of importance – earthen floors were often the most common. In this case Dr Hall was a well-respected physician for the area.

While none of the original furniture had survived due to much of it being claimed by Susannas daughter, the furniture certainly would have been of fine, strong quality, and handmade from solid Oak.

Now authentic Jacobean furniture, sourced from antique dealers, decorates the house. This creates an accurate representation of how the place may have been furnished when owned by the Halls.

Guild of Master Craftsmen

Here at Salcey Cabinet Makers, we are long-term members of the Guild of Master Craftsmen. With our expertise we can provide you a colour and design match service.

This means that whether you have some antique furniture, or inherited pieces, and you would like a matching or complementing piece of furniture to go with it, we can accurately design and match a new piece of bespoke furniture just for you.

Listed Buildings

Additionally, a major attraction to many of those that visit Stratford-upon-Avon is the Holy Trinity Church. It is Grade 1 listed and one of Stratford’s oldest buildings dating from 1210.

Of course, this church holds distinct architectural features. They include, large stained-glass windows, a 14th century sanctuary knocker, and 15th century misericord seats with carvings in the wood.

Evidently, Grade 1 listed buildings are of the highest architectural, national, or historical significance. Here at Salcey Cabinet Makers we have done a large amount of work within listed properties. And, whilst still producing gorgeous bespoke kitchens or pieces of furniture, we can easily work around the limits and restrictions that come with these unique listed homes.

From a bespoke wardrobe for a room with curved wonky walls, or a fitted bespoke kitchen with low ceilings and beams, we can accommodate to any specifications and requirements.
