About Cambridge

Cambridgeshire is known for many different reasons – primarily the globally recognised university of Cambridge and its surrounding city. It is filled with stunning old buildings with a rich and interesting history.

Having our workshop based in Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire is really just around the corner. And so, here at Salcey Cabinet Makers we are able to offer Cambridgeshire, and beyond, quality bespoke fitted kitchens and furniture. Of course, all designed and handmade specially to suit your gorgeous home.

Below are some key places to visit and some fascinating history!

Peterborough

Peterborough holds some great historical landmarks to visit. The Cathedral, the Museum & Art Gallery, and Crowland Abbey being just a few.

Additionally, a popular and well-known landmark is the Burghley House; a grand 16th century country house built by William Cecil. It is still lived in by the Cecil family today.

While much of the house still represents the period in which it was built, the gardens were recently adapted and consist of contemporary sculptures and hidden trails.

Going back even further in history, a fascinating landmark is the Flag Fen archaeology park. Flag Fen is a Bronze Age site constructed about 3500 years ago. Here you can discover reconstructed round houses and the real remains of the well-preserved timber causeway.

Ely

Ely is one of England’s smallest cities and was originally called “Isle of Ely”. It is certainly well known for its stunning cathedral dating back to AD 673.

Because this cathedral had several phases of construction, it consists of multiple architectural styles- mixing between Romanesque and Gothic. The Ely Cathedral has even featured in TV shows such as The Crown, and is also on the cover of Pink Floyds album ‘The Division Bell’.

While many people may lean towards a general design style we often tend to have a range of likes and dislikes that are taken from multiple time periods. When opting to have bespoke furniture, it allows you to combine elements and features from a range of styles. This enables you to create the perfect piece of handmade furniture or bespoke kitchen that suits exactly what you like.

Cambridge

Cambridge

Cambridge is, of course, most famous for its university. The University was founded in 1209 when scholars from Oxford fled to Cambridge to escape the riots between the townspeople and scholars. In fact, it is the world’s third oldest surviving university!

You can even visit the pub in which Francis Crick and James Watson first announced their discovery of how DNA carries genetic information. In 1953, The Eagle pub was the regular place to visit for many scientists.

Salcey Cabinet Makers are makers of beautiful bespoke kitchens and propose a full bespoke service to any requirement, from hand drawn designs to final installation. No awkward spaces, uneven walls, low ceilings, beams, or any feature is a problem for the expertise of their Cabinet Makers.
