A Bespoke Kitchen Renovation

Bespoke kitchens last a lifetime due to the quality and workmanship, therefore are a brilliant investment for your home.

Over 15 years ago, here at Salcey Cabinet Makers, we designed and hand-made this traditional style bespoke kitchen. Since then, a new family have moved into this home. They recently contacted us wishing to adapt this handmade kitchen to suit their personal taste.

Let’s look through the full process of this Bespoke Kitchen renovation by starting right from the beginning, 15 years ago…

Before - Bespoke Kitchen Renovation project

The original customers who had us design and make this kitchen wanted something traditional. They loved the warmth that comes from timber and therefore we handmade it in solid Character Oak. With gorgeous details in this Oak choice, it leaves the room feeling warm, cosy, and extra homely.

The panels on the doors are raised and fielded – a classic and stunning detail popularised by the Victorians. To create an added natural brightness that still keeps the warmth in the room we also included under-cupboard lighting.

A solid, black natural granite worktop runs throughout the kitchen and creates a lovely contrast with both the vibrancy of the red Aga, and the natural tones of the timber. Additionally, handmade by one of our skilled cabinet makers, we included curved cabinetry to create a nice soft flow around the room.

Put together, all of these individual components create a beautiful bespoke kitchen that is full of traditional details and bursting with character.

Finally, coming off from the kitchen is the utility room. This was designed and again handmade to match the rest of the kitchen. This area provides added storage, space for a double fridge, another sink, and a washer/dryer.

The Renovation…

Now let’s look at the adaptations we made for our new client.

As we know everyone has different personal tastes, and while both versions of the kitchens are equally gorgeous in their own unique styles, the new people who moved in wanted the room to feel brighter and have a more modern touch.

Hand-painted kitchen with island

Because of the excellent quality of this bespoke kitchen that we made 15 years prior, we were simply able to achieve this by repainting the existing cabinetry as well as making just a few modifications.

The island was one of the most major additions. With deep drawers and space for seating, it was designed to perfectly complement the rest of the kitchen.

We hand-painted all the cabinetry in pale, gentle tones. Dorchester Pink Deep by Little Greene was used for the lower cabinets and an off-white for the higher cabinets. This was one of the biggest changes in its appearance and certainly looks stunning against the new chosen countertops supplied by Algarve Granite – Blanco Stellar Quartz by Silestone.

Curved cabinetry

Handles were swapped to classic Satin Nickle knobs, plinth lighting was added to brighten the room up even more, and a new white Range was also fitted in replacement of the red Aga. Overall a picture-perfect kitchen that is refreshing, modern, and filled with personality.

With just these slight modifications we were able to completely reinvent the entire look of this kitchen. Proving that our bespoke kitchens truly do last a lifetime!
